After getting the go ahead from the planners, Radstock Co-op were keen to instruct developers to commence construction of their fifteenth store at the site of the former Fromefield doctors’ surgery, at the junction of Bath Road and Rodden Road. The contract for the development and construction of the site was awarded to Higson & Sons Ltd who moved on to the site and have already started the build project.
The design features of the two-storey building gives it a contemporary appearance in-keeping with newly constructed buildings within close proximity, for example, the new Frome Hospital and medical centre and will provide an interesting and unique focal point due to its dual aspect location.
Total Design Shopfitting Services, who have completed several projects on behalf of the Society, have been appointed to complete the store fit out which will take into consideration environmental factors such as the installation of the latest and most energy efficient freezers and chiller units, lighting and equipment. The layout will provide for a modern, light and spacious environment, which will be easy to navigate offering good quality products with an emphasis on fresh food, complete meal options, food-to-go, extensive range of beers, wines and spirits including local ales and ciders, instore bakery as well as the typical grocery items. There will also be ample, easily accessible parking.
Don Morris, chief executive commented, “We aim to expand on the success of our store in the Westway Centre and strengthen our commitment to the Frome area. We have a close association with the area due to the fact that many of our staff, members and business partners reside or operate out of the Frome area. We hope that local residents will benefit from a local community store on the doorstep thus avoiding unnecessary car journeys to further afield retail outlets which can only be a positive for the environment by reducing carbon emissions and traffic congestion in the local area. We aim to capitalise on our knowledge and experience of Frome to ensure that our store exceeds the expectations of customers and this will hopefully lead to an increase in footfall to the area to the benefit of other local traders and businesses’.
If all goes according to schedule, the store should be open for trading in the Autumn.
