For the second year running, colleagues at Radstock Co-op Head Office decided not to send greeting cards to each other or participate in the usual Secret Santa present giving tradition and instead decided to donate a toy to a child whose parents may not be able to afford one this Christmas. Over the past few weeks, staff have been bringing in gifts including dolls, scooters, games and action figures and placing them under the office Christmas tree. The Co-op also donated some toys to this deserving cause.
On Friday 12th December a representative group from Radstock Co-op Head Office played Santa and delivered several sack full of toys and gifts to the Children’s Centre, Church Road, Radstock. Nicky Holt the centre manager will be distributing the gifts to parents who will then be able to personally wrap them up for their own child and be able to share in the gift of giving at Christmas. Nicky was overwhelmed by the generosity of the staff which exceeded all her expectations and expressed her gratitude for all the lovely gifts. A spokesperson for the Society said “Our staff got a great deal of satisfaction last year from swapping the usual office custom of giving cards etc for the chance to brighten a child’s Christmas through the donation of a toy. Such was the strength of feeling from staff that they unanimously agreed to repeat the process this year, and on an even bigger scale than previously.”
