Michael Eavis CBE, founder of the Glastonbury Festival, was guest of honour at the Radco relaunch event on Wednesday 4th June 2014. Mr Eavis performed the cutting of the ribbon ceremony after Don Morris, chief executive addressed an audience made up of local traders, businesses, councillors, Society members, customers, colleagues and supporters.
Don thanked customers for their patience and loyalty during the refurbishment project which took almost six months to complete due to the commitment to keep the store trading throughout. He also thanked staff and management for their dedication and commitment which had ensured that the project went smoothly and disruption was kept to a minimum. He went on to thank Mr Eavis for kindly agreeing to perform the ribbon cutting ritual. Mr Eavis has strong links with the Radstock area having supported the Somerset Miners Welfare Association over the years and is an advocate of the co-operative ethos. Mr Eavis said he was delighted to be able to join in the occasion and commended the Society on its longevity in serving the local community since 1868.
After the usual photo opportunity, Don escorted a group of guests around the store to take in the improvements. Many of the guests who were familiar with the old store layout were amazed at the transformation and commented on how spacious, bright and modern it felt and how the new format was inviting and provided for greater visibility and clearer navigation.
The list of improvements include new chiller and freezer units, replacement lighting, fixtures, checkouts and kiosk, wider aisles, signage, relocation of various departments, new alcohol section…….. the list is endless.
