Westfield Surgery was the latest medical practice to benefit from funds collected by Radstock Co-op in respect of the ‘Carrier Bag Charging Levy’. The levy was introduced in October 2015 and requires retailers to charge 5p for all single-use plastic carrier bags and to donate the sales-proceeds to good causes.
The Society, in consultation with its members, decided that local health providers and doctors’ surgeries could do with a financial boost due to cuts in their funding and an ever-increasing demand for their services and the consequential pull on resources due to the ageing population.
Westfield Surgery is a modern, friendly, family practice, offering the full range of primary medical services to their patients, including family planning, child health, minor surgery, and the management of chronic diseases. The surgery serves Norton Radstock and the surrounding areas.
A spokesperson for the Society said, “The Westfield Surgery is right at the centre of the Society’s trading estate and is close to our flagship store, Radco as well as our community stores based in Westfield and Fosseway and our Head Office in the centre of Radstock. Many of our colleagues, members and customers are patients of the surgery and benefit from the service they provide. We hope that a donation of £2,000 will help in some small way to purchase equipment etc for the benefit of the local community”
Dr Guy Worsdall, Senior Partner of Westfield Surgery said “We are extremely grateful to the Co-Operative Society for their generous donation to the surgery. This will enable us to purchase a Dermatoscope and an additional Electrocardiogram Machine (ECG). These are both very valuable pieces of equipment. The Dermatoscope will allow our Doctors and Nurses to provide an even more efficient and thorough assessment of skin lesions, including moles causing concern to patients. This assessment will help us provide more in-depth information regarding potential diagnosis and management.
The ECG machine is used to check a patient’s heart rhythm, which again will speed up any treatment and referral that may be needed. Once again a huge thanks from us all at Westfield Surgery.”
