HR Business Partner

Location/Store: Radstock Based, Nr Bath

We are a growing, independent, co-operative retail business with fifteen convenience stores, a superstore and a 1,000 acre dairy farm, all predominately situated within Somerset.  It’s exciting times; we recently extended our geographical trading area into the county of Wiltshire and have plans to open more new stores in this financial year. Our seventeenth store, situated in Weston-super-Mare, is currently being built and is due to launch late summer. To support our store acquisition plans, we are looking to add an HR Business partner to the team. 

The HR Business Partner will provide field support to store managers across a trading area consisting of approximately 10 stores giving generalist advice and guidance on day to day HR queries and will support with delivery and roll-out of new initiatives. Your role will include, but is not limited to:

  • Working in partnership with the managers to ensure the delivery of key business KPIs
  • Providing professional HR advice and support to your client group including case management (sickness, disciplinary, performance management and grievance handling)
  • Contributing in the development and implementation of the HR Strategy
  • Analysing and interpreting management information to make recommendations and develop action plans which makes best use of Human Resources and which adds value to the business
  • Produce HR reports to Area Managers and Store Managers
  • Supporting recruitment campaigns
  • Designing and delivering training to management on key HR policies and processes
  • Designing and delivering skills training programmes to store staff
  • Support the delivery of HR interventions and initiatives such as Investors in People

As the HRBP you will have a strong generalist background and will have ideally worked in a multi-site/field role before.

You will be used to working in a fast paced, constantly changing environment and will be confident dealing with all levels of stakeholders.

Good employee relations knowledge, up to a complex level is essential. As the business continues with its growth plans you will be required to support on the recruitment of manager level roles so any previous experience of recruitment will be highly advantageous.

MCIPD qualification desirable. Travel is a requirement of the role so car owner essential.

Job Overview

We require a supervisor for our convenience store located in Chilcompton. Ideally, you will have some supervisory experience worked within the food retail sector, preferable within a convenience store environment.   

  • You will have worked as a customer service assistant and demonstrated competence in the full range of duties associated with the position including till operation, stock and ordering/replenishment, customer complaint handling, receiving deliveries, price reductions and wastage recording, store standards etc.
  • You will have a good understanding of the legal framework surrounding retail including age-restricted products, sale of goods act, pricing, food handling etc.
  • You will have a natural flair with customers and be an advocate for excellent customer service. 
  • You will be comfortable and confident in handling cash and credit/debit card transactions.
  • You will be confident supervising a team of customer service assistants as required which will involve issuing working instructions, conducting performance reviews/job chats, involvement in recruitment, induction training and coaching of colleagues, carrying out return-to-work interviews, assisting with tackling performance and conduct issues etc.
  • You will also be required to deal with routine duties including shelf filling, stock rotation, ordering and general house-keeping. 
  • This position will also be a key holder and will take responsibility for the security of the premises when acting in the capacity of duty manager.
