Planners give the thumbs-up to Radco Redevelopment

Bath and North East Somerset Planners have given the go ahead for a multi-million pound redevelopment of the current Radco site.
After hearing comments and submissions from various groups including local Parish Councillors, the planning committee unanimously approved plans commending the Society and their planning consultants, Origin 3, on their consultative and co-operative design approach.

Don Morris, Chief Executive for the Society presented the vision for the site which was to shape the future of the Radstock Town Centre and shared some of the feedback from customers, members and residents in response to a consultation exercise. In particular, that of one little, local girl, Tabitha. Tabitha, on seeing an artist impression of the proposed scheme in the foyer of the Radco store, was motivated to paint a picture of her concept for the development and send to Mr Morris for consideration. Don Morris said, “On receiving Tabitha’s picture, you realise the impact that the plans have not only on this generation but for generations to come. Our Radco store has done us proud and served the community for decades. But it is not fit for purpose now and our customers deserve better. We are thrilled and excited that our plans have been approved and we thank everyone who provided encouragement and support over the past few months. This is a huge project for the Society and we look forward to the seeing the plans being translated into reality during the various stages of the development.”.

Plans were approved for the site to include a high-quality modern store, further retail units, office floorspace and 28 apartments in two mixed use buildings along Wells Road. In addition, outline planning has been given for the construction of 26 new homes on part of the existing car park.
